Middle Aged Lovers<\/b>

Unable to bear
\nthe uncertainty
\nof the future,
\nwe consulted seers,
\nmediums, stock market gurus,
\npsychics who promised
\nhappiness on this
\nor another planet,
\nastrologists of love,
\nseekers of the Holy Grail.<\/p>\n
Looking for certainty
\nwe asked for promises,
\nlover\u2019s knots, pledges, rings,
\ncertificates, deeds of ownership,
\nwhen it was always enough
\nto let your hand
\npass over my body,
\nyour eyes find the depths of my own,
\nand the wind pass over our faces
\nas it will pass
\nthrough our bones,
\nsooner than we think.<\/p>\n
The current is love,
\nis poetry,
\nthe blood beat
\nin the thighs,
\nthe electrical charge
\nin the brain.<\/p>\n
Our long leap
\ninto the unknown
\nbegan nearly
\na half century ago
\nand is almost
\nover.<\/p>\n
I think of the
\namphorae of stored honey
\nat Paestum
\nfar out-lasting
\ntheir Grecian eaters,
\nor of the furniture
\nin a pharoah\u2019s tomb
\non which
\nno one sits.<\/p>\n
Trust the wind,
\nmy lover,
\nand the water.<\/p>\n
They have the
\nanswers
\nto all your questions<\/p>\n
