24th Annual FOOL\u2019S DAY PARADE
<\/font>Sunday, April the 4th at High Noon
<\/strong><\/font>Meets at the Aquatic Centre (1050 Beach)
Under the Big Tree
<\/font><\/i><\/p>\n

A parade in honour of Fool’s Day, and the election of this year’s <\/font>
King <\/b><\/font>or Queen of Fools<\/b>, to be crowned by public acclamation, <\/font>
begins at High Noon on Sunday, April the 4th.<\/p>\n

The 24th Annual Fool’s Day Parade<\/b> – a spring fertility ritual and an <\/font>
annual Vancouver <\/font>tradition – is a homegrown display of absurd dress, <\/font>
notions and behaviour, and the public <\/font>is encouraged to join in the fun, <\/font>
in or out of costume.<\/p>\n

The parade, featuring floats, stiltwalkers, Human Beings In Silly Costumes, <\/font>
and major hoopla, <\/font>spotlights participants costumed as the nominated Fools<\/font>
of the Year. Among this year\u2019s <\/font>nominees are Conrad Black, George W. Bush, <\/font>
Gordon Campbell, Martha Stewart, and, <\/font>sadly, Todd Bertuzzi. (2003\u2019s <\/font>
crown holder Mr. Campbell, now up for <\/font>re-election, made no comment at press time.)<\/p>\n

The nominations were made by a select board under the auspices of Vancouver\u2019s
official Fools’ Day Committee. Competition for the Crown is fierce, as hopefuls
vie for dominance after grueling weeks of preparation for contests in hula hooping,
belly flopping, tongue twisting and pie throwing.<\/p>\n

The Parade is the highlight of Vancouver\u2019s annual \u201cFoolishness Week\u201d, <\/font>
proclaimed <\/font>by Mayor Larry Campbell for April 1st to the 8th (see documents <\/font>
at www.fools-society.com).<\/p>\n

During this holiday observance, mirth, havoc, and nonsense reign supreme<\/font>
for one entire week. Given such broad ‘Foolish License’, authorities are <\/font>
advised to be on guard as of April 1st, as the whipped cream has been known<\/font>
to fly thick and fast.<\/p>\n

Though the Committee is sworn to secrecy, foolish emissary Godfrey Daniels <\/font>
gave a hint of revelations to come as he quipped, “we will spare no humiliation <\/font>
to ensure that Vancouver stays in the international spotlight”.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t forget, the Parade happens rain or shine on Sunday, April 4th <\/b><\/font>
at Noon<\/b>, so bring the family, with bells on! Participants may join in the <\/font>
ceremonies and parade along the West End Seawall, led by members of <\/font>
